Sue's Review
The Soaring Eagle Casino
Mt. Pleasant, Michigan
- June 2, 2006
We left Toronto Friday
morning, June 2, 2006 at about 10:30 am. We drove west to
Sarnia Ontario and crossed over the border into Port Huron Mi.
It was a pretty nice day - somewhat overcast but with the
sun shining through every once and a while. As is our custom
we stopped to look in the "Cracker Barrel". There is
always such neat stuff in those stores!! We left there and
as we had made sandwiches the night before, we ate while we travelled.
We continued on through Flint and then up to Mt. Pleasant.
We were using our trusty "Mapquest" which led us right
up to the door of the Soaring Eagle Casino. We arrived
there about 5:00pm. We parked in the covered parking because
it was starting to look like it would rain any second and we did
not want to mess our hair!!!
We went into the casino and discovered that we had to walk
right past the entertainment centre to enter the actual casino.
The doors to the venue had glass sections that look mirrored
- but if you went right up to the glass you could see inside.
We did and there they were - the Love Gods doing their soundcheck.
They were almost finished and left the stage within minutes.
We caught enough of a glimpse to heighten our excitement
and anticipation. As we had 2 1/2 hours till show time we
went into the casino and tried our luck at the slot machines.
I must admit I did manage to win a bit so I cashed
out and decided to keep my winnings.
At about 6:45 we went back to the car and got our "concert
clothes", and took them into the restroom so we could change.
At 7:45 we went into the venue and found our table - #11 -
right up by the stage on the extreme left side - Graham's side.
Now the only bad thing about being so close is that the speakers
were right there, of course so are the guys. The casino
staff came by handing out earplugs - CAN YOU IMAGINE? Of
course we didn't take any!!
At 8:00 the Beatles music got loud - "It won't be Long"
was playing so we knew the concert was about to begin. It
started with "The Power of Love". What an amazing
song when it is sung by Russell. Many people have tried
to sing this song, but Air Supply's version is by far the best!!
The show carried on, every song just as good as the next.
When Russell took his break, Graham sang another brand new song.
He is such a talent. He told us that it was originally Russell's
idea that he do a solo. He said it was so Russell could
get a cup of tea. But really Russell needs a break.
He puts everything into his singing!!! He also needs time
to change into those red leather pants!!
The second half started with the band members doing their customary
number. It is a new one this year and really lets the audience
know just how talented these musicians are. Then Graham
recited his poem "The River" which led into "Sweet
Dreams". I love that arrangement.
The audience had a chance to sing along with "Two Less
People in the World", "The One that You Love" and
"All out of Love". Before he sang "Making
Love out of Nothing at All", Russell invited everyone to
come down front. I'm glad we were already down front.
It got quite crowded!!!
The show ended with "Goodnight" and we all lined
up for the Meet and Greet. As usual the guys were very relaxed
and friendly. We got lots of pictures and chatted with them.
We also met up with several other Airheads that we had seen at
previous shows.
When we finally left we had a satisfied feeling. We had
had our Air Supply "fix"!!! I only hope it will
carry us through to the next time. For Dawn and I that will
be Casino Rama in Orillia Canada in August - CAN'T WAIT!!!
