MJ's Petoskey, MI Air Supply show review
September 29, 2007

Here is my review of the Petoskey MI show, and of my first Air Supply road
trip. We arrived at the motel at around three in the afternoon. Although
the motel is affiliated with the casino, they are around a mile apart. They
have a twenty-four hour shuttle service between the motel and casino. Linda
decided to drive so that we could come and go on our own time schedule.
Since the show started at nine, we had six hours to relax, sight see, gamble
(something that Brian loves), eat and enjoy the crisp autumn air.
As Linda wrote in an earlier post, she, Brian, and I had front row seats.
Since Betsy and I bought our tickets separately, I was two seats down from
Linda and Betsy was four rows behind me. The show was sold out, and the
energy level both on and off stage was high. I know I've said this before,
but I am always amazed by the energy level of all five band members. I was
especially appreciative of their performance, energy, and attention given to
fans since I know they had very little sleep, had flight delays and had little
time to rest and relax before the show.
When I had front row seats at the MI State Fair I was a bit disappointed we
did not get to see Graham perform songs from the Future and that there were
bars between our seats and the stage. There were no disappointments in
Petoskey. Graham came out and sang The Future and Make You Mine. Then they
went right into Sweet Dreams. When they were playing the Beatles - It Won't
Be Long, I had thought that again we were going to miss out on Graham's
performance. He came out and introduced himself as the opening act for Air
Supply. It was great to hear him talk about the songs and to hear his
interpretation of what they are about.
The show was phenomenal! It was the same song list as at the state Fair,
but I don't remember hearing Chances at the Fair. We were all glad that
they put Chances back in the show. I love hearing all of their hits from
the 80s, and A Little Bit of Everything and Faith in Love are high on my
love to hear live list.
When Russell invited us to come up to the stage for Making Love Out of
Nothing at All, I hurried forward to claim a place right by the stage. I
succeeded, and as you may already know, Russell surprised me with a nice big
kiss on the cheek. He shook my hand a couple of times as he passed me as
well. Graham ruffled the hair on the top of my head when he passed in front
of me. It means a lot to me that they take the time to let me know when
they are right in front of me. I get a big smile on my face just thinking
of all of us there, by the stage singing along with the bright lights and
our favorite band playing just for us.
I don't know if Linda mentioned it, but some women were holding hands and
dancing with Brian by the stage. Also, Betsy mentioned in her review that
when Graham and Russell came into the audience for The One that You Love
they went right over to Brian. It's so great to experience his love and
enthusiasm for the show.
Graham announced a meet and greet before they played All Out of Love. The
crew had everything taken down and packed away before the band came out for
the meet and greet. Some fans had already left, and others sounded worried
that they wouldn't come out. I just kept saying that Graham wouldn't have
said that they would have a meet and greet if they weren't going to come
out. The line for the meet and greet was slightly disorganized, but nothing
like the one at the MI State Fair. Betsy helped me to get my CDs signed and
I got hugs from Graham and Russell. As usual they were all very friendly
and patient and made sure that they talked with everyone who was waiting.
At the State Fair, Mary got my Lynette Thredgold CD signed by Jed. I ordered
another of her CDs that Jed plays on and brought it to Petoskey. He seemed
genuinely surprised to see the CD and signed it for me. He remembered
about the one that Mary asked him to sign at the Fair.
Linda, Brian and I went to the quieter of the two casino bars, and Moe joined
us. We each bought him a drink, and we had a nice talk. He said that they
didn't have much time to sight see in South Africa, but they did go to a
lion reserve. We then moved on to a very loud bar where we didn't spend a
lot of time. We did spend enough time though to order a drink and for Brian
to dance with a whole group of girls. Linda lured him out of the bar by
reminding them that they still had a card left to gamble with.
We had a chance to talk with Jed for a few minutes before we left on Sunday
morning. He mentioned that they had a chance to go to Frankenmuth when they
were in MI for the fair. He said that he enjoyed Bronners the huge
Christmas store and had some ornaments shipped home from there.
We made a slight detour on the way home and drove through Frankenmuth and
made a stop at Bronners. Since we didn't want to wait in line at Zenders,
we went to Tony's near Burch Run, the huge outlet mall. Tony's is known
for their huge portions of food.
We probably could have ordered one meal and none of us would have walked away
hungry. Thanks Linda, Brian, and Betsy for taking me on my first Air Supply
road trip. It was a lot of fun and a trip I'll never forget.
